Ever tried circular fries? Sometimes you want a bit of potato on the side of your meal; something different to your regular roast potato or plain French fries.
Cottage fries are something I was accustomed to when growing up with Portuguese cuisine.
In Portuguese cafes you’d typically get your chips served this way. If the chips you’re getting aren’t frozen of course.
What is a cottage fry?
Cottage cut fries are really just homemade chips (or fries for our US audience); essentially just potato sliced into circular slices and fried.
What do cottage fries pair well with?
I love me some homemade cottage cut fries with something hearty like a mushroom stroganoff, served with rice and salad. Something simple, healthy, yet wholesome.
This cottage fries recipe is a great, kid-friendly variation to regular fries and with the skin left on; provides more nutrition than the average fry.
We hope you enjoy this simple round fry recipe, feel free to bookmark for future use.

- Combine smoked paprika, rosemary, salt and pepper in a bowl or large spoon, set aside.
- Add potatoes to the hot oil, and cook for 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown on the edges, the potatoes should be crisp when poked with a fork.
- Transfer chips to a bowl lined with paper towels, then sprinkle on the seasonings, toss a couple times until all chips have a lil’ seasoning.
- Serve and enjoy while hot; Great with so many meals!
Be sure to drain off oil before serving, alternatively, you can use an airfryer in place of cooking oil, cook for 30 minutes.
